In the National Park of Xcalak reefs, there are several unique dive sites to explore; La Poza, also known as The Tarpon Hole, which is a blue hole with a unique form in the Mesoamerican barrier reef, where tarpon waits upstream for small fish to feed. It is not uncommon to see more than 30 tarpon at the same time.
In La Poza you can also find congregations of catfish, snapper and eagle rays. Another favorite is the Chimena, which ends in a narrow corridor and round dome with an open top, further north of the park, Hob-Na and Punta Gavilán, deep walls with impressive colonies of black coral and fluorescent sponges.
